This is a vital legal document that basically absolves you from further responsibility for the car, officially handing it to us in the eyes of the law. Incidentally, it\u2019s important to take note of the wording here: it\u2019s not a Document of Destruction, or a Certificate of Collection. These made-up names and papers have zero legal standing, and are often use by unscrupulous dealers to trick people into handing over their cars. A legally-recognised CoD releases you from responsibility, and is a vital component you\u2019ll need both when claiming back road tax from the DVLA and when claiming unused insurance from your insurers.<\/p>\n This leads us nicely on to the second necessary step if you want to claim any road tax and the like \u2013 which is to use a registered Authorised Treatment Facility. These are scrap metal facilities that have been assessed and monitored by the governmental Environmental Agency, and they\u2019re the only places you\u2019re legally allowed to scrap your car. Getting the official label of an ATF means that the scrap yard has proven beyond a doubt that they have the resources, facilities and equipment to reach sustainability and recycling targets.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve got more good news on that score \u2013 every single one of our partners is an ATF, and it\u2019s something we ourselves keep a very close eye on. That means that not only can you be sure that we\u2019re operating well inside the boundaries of the law, but we can state with confidence that your scrap car is being disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Incidentally, since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act of 2013, it\u2019s illegal to pay cash for scrap cars in England, Wales or Scotland. This again allows for more government oversight, helping them trace and crack down on any dodgy transactions. \u2018Cash for your car\u2019 sounds catchy, but actually we\u2019ll pay you by BACS or bank transfer for your vehicle. Admittedly it loses a little something in the rhythm, but we think it\u2019s worth it for the added security it gives you \u2013 not to mention the peace of mind!<\/p>\n As our customer<\/a>, you are at the centre of everything we do.
