It can take a long time<\/h2>\n

If you decide to remove parts and sell them yourself, it means you\u2019re committing to spending a considerable amount of extra time dealing with a car you want to get rid of. Every part of the process suddenly becomes a lot longer, from the operation of removing the parts themselves to the business of selling them.<\/p>\n

Removing an engine for example often takes at least six to eight hours, and that\u2019s if you already know exactly what you\u2019re doing, and you\u2019ve got all the tools required. Depending on what parts you\u2019re thinking about removing, this can easily end up levelling out to a few full days of work, or a good couple of weekends. For lots of people, that essentially means working seven-day weeks for a bit, or else having the scrap car on their drive for another few months to come. Some people will want to see their parts in person, especially the bigger or more expensive ones. That involves either transporting them off your premises, or waiting in for appointments that aren\u2019t guaranteed to result in a sale (or even a showing in some cases, let\u2019s be honest!).<\/p>\n

And you can bet that if any of your parts have the slightest bit of damage or scuffing on them, that\u2019s going to result in another round of haggling. That can be especially frustrating given that it\u2019s easy to accidentally scratch some components when removing them, particularly if you\u2019ve not got professional tools or expertise.<\/p>\n

It can be physically dangerous<\/h2>\n

We spend so much time in our cars normally that it can be easy to forget just how dangerous they actually are. Airbags contain explosive elements. Several car fluids are toxic, as are the metals in a catalytic converter.
